PRINCE2 2009 - Directing Projects with PRINCE2 part 39

Authorize the project

Approve the next Stage Plan

Once the Project Initiation Documentation (including the Project Plan) has been approved, Project Board members need to base their ‘approval to proceed’ on a more detailed plan for the first delivery stage (see ‘Stage 2’ in the diagram in ‘Context – part 1’ under ‘Authorize the project’).

Authorizing the project and authorizing the first delivery stage are typically done at the same time.
However, PRINCE2® describes these as two discrete activities within the Directing a Project process.
The Project Board activity to authorize a stage is covered in the section covering ‘Authorize a Stage or Exception Plan’.

All references above are in Directing Successful Projects with PRINCE2 unless stated otherwise.
