Reviewing benefits

Summary

PRINCE2® requires senior managers to undertake the following responsibilities when reviewing benefits.



Actions required for reviewing benefits

Hold the benefits review:

  • Executive to decide when to hold the benefits review
  • Senior User to prepare benefit statements for each benefit in the Business Case
  • Identify root causes of variations between actual and forecast benefits
  • Identify any lessons learned
  • The Executive to decide whether the Business Case can be closed or whether further benefits reviews are required

Close the Business Case:

  • The Executive to update the Business Case with actual versus planned performance of the project with respect to full-life costs and accrued and forecast benefits.

Communicate:

  • Pass on lessons learned to corporate or programme management.
