Leadership - Continuity

Continuity

Succession

Whenever you lead you must look to the long term and this means who will succeed you.
Many organisations and groups have declined once their ‘leader’ departs.

People can become reliant on one person and once that person goes confidence dissipates, heads drop and it isn’t long before performance also goes down.
It is a lot harder to turn around an ailing organisation than to maintain it if the right leader was in place in the first place.

A good leader will look to being replaced at some time in the future and develop the person for the job.
If you are the leader then you have to lead. You can not pass the baton on to anyone else.

You must get your organisation into a position to live without you.

No matter how good your organisation may think you are as a new leader will always bring something fresh to the business.
Perhaps a vision that goes beyond the current, a new approach to managing debt, for example.
