The Project Board’s duty to lead communication and set expectations is never more crucial than during initiation.
At this point, the approach and plans often evolve rapidly or change abruptly, so care should be taken to manage expectations and avoid making premature commitments.
At this early point, there will not be an agreed Communications Management Strategy for the project (though there may be one at programme level), but effective communication is nevertheless vital.
This is especially important for clarifying business objectives and project scope with the programme or corporate managers who are commissioning the project.
The work of initiating a project may take anything from a single day to several months depending on a number of factors.
