Issuing a project closure notification is the last act of the project - and the last Project Board duty.
The purpose of the notification is to advise those who have provided the support infrastructure and resources for the project that these can be withdrawn from a specific date - i.e. consistent with the Stage Plan activities for decommissioning the project and releasing resources.
The date should also act as the closing date for costs being charged to the project.
To the teamSuccessful projects are worth celebrating.
Especially on medium- to large-scale projects, Project Board members should give some thought to marking completion with an appropriate gesture of gratitude before the teams disperse (NB: the nature of any gesture like this might require careful thought in case it could have unforeseen tax implications or be construed as an inappropriate reward.)
Successful projects are worth exploiting.
Positive internal messages to programme and corporate management, success stories in press releases, and sales and marketing collateral should also be generated before the information loses value - or is simply lost.
Ensure that key summaries are developed, tabled and approved during project closure while the Project Board members are still focused on this project.
